We make cards. Is it really that simple?
My answer is no. It's more than just a card. The act of taking time to sit and make a card is more than just art. For some it's an act of validation that in this moment I am worthy of taking this time to call my own. I am deserving of rewarding my hard work with the purchase of a few beautiful things.
For others is an act of diversion from the daily often constant physical pain they experience. Filling their time with color, art, and joyful expression in an effort to forget if only for a moment that each hour of the day is a struggle to get through.
For some creating cards is a way to ease the loneliness they feel. By creating for others they feel connected, and the gift of giving makes them feel not so alone in this world.
Because creating a card is a gift for another it is a way to feel that the time we are taking is acceptable because it's not entirely for ourselves. Creating a card for someone else while we battle our struggles helps us feel that if we can lift the burdens of another, and when that happens we subconsciously find our own burdens lifted.
Today I wanted to say to my fellow crafters this . . .
For what ever reason why you choose this form of art, I want you to know that it is a beautiful expression of who you are. Whatever you create, whether elaborate or simple, is absolutely perfect.
I want you to know that you are worthy of taking the time for yourself. If you are in pain know that others feel your pain and your gonna make it through this. Lastly if you feel alone, remember that you're not. We are a group of millions with so much in common. We are a family of women, men, mothers, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters and artists that are more alike than you think.
So Today . . .
This card is for you. Yes, you...The crafter reading the screen right now.
Know that you are important, you are worthy, you are not alone and I am sending you my love & hugs
What an incredibly sweet message. You are right--we all craft for different reasons, but our desire to bring a smile to someone is the same. You are a beautiful lady, Amy.. thank you for the hug! I'm sending one back to you! xo
