I have been designing for a long long time, so I forget sometimes that stamping techniques are being discovered all the time by new crafters! With that in mind I thought I would review masking this week! Starting off today I thought I would review basic masking. Masking is a fun technique where you use rubber stamping images one on top of the other, and using masking can give the illusion that images are in front or behind each other. You can use this technique to add a lot of depth to your projects. For example you can see in these cards how masking was used to place the cats behind the dog, stack the cute little piggy's on top of each other, place the kitten in the hot air balloon, and create a line of cactus.
Let's give it a try shall we? Get out your tools and follow along with me in this photograph tutorial.
Be sure to check back each day this week to see more masking fun!
You'll need:
Stamp
Ink
Paper
Masking paper such as:
Inkadinkado Stamp Masking Paper
I'm using Brutus Monroe Rockstar Pets Stamp Set, and Diamonds . Raven Detail Ink , Misti Stamping Tool , Inkadinkado Stamp Masking Paper
Stamp your image centered onto your cardstock
Next you'll need your masking paper. I use the Post it Tape for smaller stamps and Inkadinkado Stamp Masking Paper for larger stamps.
Stamp your image onto the paper and cut out.
I wanted to be able to cut out that empty space between the headphones and his head, so for this part I used my PenBlade and a Self Healing cutting mat.
Next carefully peel off the image and place it on top of the stamped image on your cardstock, making sure to line up all edges.
Next stamp your next images where you want them.
Peel off and reveal the fun!
See how the diamond shapes now look as though they are floating behind the dog? This gives it a whole new look and dimension!
See how many different ways you can use masking by exploring this fun technique.
Be sure to check in everyday this week to see a new masking technique!
