It's time for some Friday Fun! Join me for the next 4 weeks while I show of 4 different ways to use masking techniques. I'll cover shapes, positive and negative, layering, creating scenes, and backgrounds! There will be step by step photo directions and lots of fun cards! Lets get started!
For today's post I'm kicking it off with masking with shapes! I wanted to create a simple card set that has a fun graphic look and not a lot of time involved in the technique. Let's face it if your making a card set for a friend you're going to be making at least 5 cards, so simple is better. First I want to share with you one of my favorite masking products. Inkadinkado Stamping Mask Paper. It comes in small sheets that you can die cut and is perfect for masking.
I used some Circle cutting dies and Stampendous Fronds Clear Stamp Set to create this card set.
Let's get started and I'll share with you and easy way to incorporate your small stamps, and cutting dies to create new shapes!
You'll Need:
Cardstock: white, turquoise, green, yellow, orange, red
Stampendous Fronds Clear Stamp Set
Stampendous Happy Messages Perfectly Clear Stamps Set
Distress Inks - Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw, Dried Marigold, Carved Pumpkin, Rusty Hinge, Twisted Citron, Shabby Shutters, Mowed Lawn, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Salty Ocean (*NOTE: I highly recommend following the link HERE. You can purchase them at my favorite store for just $3.98 a pad! You can use less colors if you like but I found that 3 different colors really adds a lot of depth*).
Corner Rounder
Heart Punch
Stickles - Crystal
*For the purpose of making directions easier I will show you how to make the green version. Apply the same steps to each card but just change the colors.
Turquoise Tree - Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Salty Ocean
Green Tree - Citron, Shabby Shutters, Mowed Lawn
Yellow Tree - Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw
Orange Tree - Dried Marigold, Carved Pumpkin, Rusty Hinge
1. Start with a 5" x 7" green card. Round corners. Stamp randomly with solid leaf stamp and Mowed Lawn Distress Ink. Set aside.
2. Cut 4 1/2' x 6 1/2" white cardstock, and 4 1/2' x 6 1/2" masking paper.
3. Cut 3 1/4" circle from masking paper. Place over white cardstock and place cut out circle to the side.
4. Gather your stamps, ink and paper. I used 3 blocks, one for each stamp so I didn't have to keep changing them out.
5. Start filling in the circle with your stamps and ink. Change it up so the same shape isn't always the same color. Peel off and save mask for next card.
6. Next cut a 1/2" x 2 " rectangle from a piece of cardstock. You'll need one of the leaf outline stamps, a blending tool, and Vintage Photo, and Tea Dye Distress Ink.
7. Place under tree, and use blender tool to add Tea Dye Distress Ink.
8. Then stamp outline leaf with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. . . and Viola! You have a tree trunk!
9. Finish card by rounding corners, stamping the sentiment, and adding a heart. Glue to card front and add Stickles to the heart.
If you think about how many different cutting dies you have, or how nay different shapes you could cut the masking paper into . . . the possibilities are endless!
Be sure to check back each week for all the new fun that will be happening here on the blog! Every Friday I will be featuring a different stamping technique. For the next 4 Fridays I'll be showing off 3 more really fun masking techniques! Happy crafting!!!
