For the entire month of Spooktober, the Stampendous team are breaking out their stamps and their bag of tricks in an effort to scare the fans of the Smeared Ink blog into a new view of Stampenedous and Dreamweaver. Bwahahahahaha.
For Day 20 I decided to create this Dia de los Muertos jar! Perfect for any Halloween décor, or for a Day of the Dead gift!
If you look closely you can see his painted face and wide sombrero hat....he's definitely ready for a dead mans party!
You can even add a glow stick to the back for a creepier look!
Let me show you how I did it!
First you are going to use Skeleton Style Perfectly Clear Stamps to stamp your skeleton and your Sombrero. Then color and design hi face with any colors, shapes or doodles.
Next you'll need a small jar. (I got mine at Target in the dollar area). Cut a circle smaller than the bottom of the jar. Next cut a thin strip of paper that will be the stand for your skeleton. Glue one end down to the center of the circle with Glossy Accents. Let it dry. Apply a few Glue Dots across the bottom.(this gives the skeleton an edge to lean on)
Pour some Glossy Accents into the bottom of the jar, and place your circle stand inside. (you will have to fold it a bit to get it in) Use a paint brush, or pencil to push down edges of circle. Let Dry.
Once it's dry it's time to paint it. I used Dylusions acrylic paints, but any acrylic paints will do. I used deep blue, deep purple and black. You'll also need some cosmetic sponges. I used stamping mask paper to mask out the areas of my stamp, so that there is a window to view him. I also left a strip unpainted in the back as well for a glow stick light to shine through.
step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Once this starts to dry use an exacto knife to carefully pull off the mask.
Set aside and let it dry completely.
Once it's dry you can begin to stamp the outside of your jar. You'll need Stampendous Floral Tapestry Stamp, a cosmetic sponge, and a white Acrylic paint.
You'll lay your stamp out flat and lightly pat on the white paint.
Then gently roll your jar across.
Repeat to cover the other side of the jar. (NOTE: you will have to pick up the stamp and try to stamp into the edges to get the neck of the bottle. Don't worry about it being perfect because we will cover the neck with ribbon).
While your Jar is drying Stamp Pen Pattern Skull Stamp once onto paper. Then ink flowers on stamp and stamp repeatedly until you have roses. Color with Copics (YG03,YG07, Y06,Y15,E02,YR04,RV13,R17)
Cut out Banner, and all the roses. Using Glossy Accents glue banner, and roses around opening on jar. Attach Glue Dots to skull head and squeeze him into jar making sure to press his head to the front of paper stand inside the jar. To cover the bottom of the jar sprinkle in a little Frantage Bronzed Mica Fragments. Add Ribbon, a bow, and a flower!
EEEK! What a fab Dia de los Muertos project! A skellie in a bottle. Too stinkin' CUTE! LOVE! xxD

Awesome! I have heard of letting the cat out of the bag but never of letting the skeleton out of the jar! LOL Mr. Skelly is styling and looks like he will be the life (or death as it may be) of the party! TS!
